		<itunes:summary>Becoming 1 in 1000
Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

I was raised a heathen and for the first 27 years of my life I lived as one. God saved me at that point through the personal witness of a couple of people that He had brought into my life at the right time for the circumstances that He had allowed to come to pass which prepared me for that moment.

I have been told that there is no zeal like that of a convert. Someone who is not raised with these truths gets more excited about them than one who has grown up with them.

After 16 years I want to tell you that I am still excited about the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Early in my Christian life I began to share my faith, as I had been taught, give them the Gospel and have them pray to receive Christ.

My first year as a Christian I ldquo;lead 13 people to Christrdquo; or so I thought.

As far as I know there is only one who remains faithful today.

I was disillusioned by this and in the course of time as I began to teach I made a serious study of the Gospel and I learned that the Law must precede Grace so that people see their need for the forgiveness of God that is offered in the Gospel.

God gave me the opportunity teach a class at my first church on evangelism.

Then to train three sets of people to share their faith on short term missions to Mexico.

From this was born my Internet ministry which is called 1in1000.org.

You may say as my unsaved brother has said, a little cocky, aren't you?

The name comes from Job 33:23 and this is the text that I want to preach this morning.

This will help you to see where I am coming from as a preacher and pastor.

I am reasonably sure that you are familiar with the story of Job.

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

We see at the beginning that Job was a good man.

Job 	1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves 	before the Lord, 	and Satan also came among them. 7 And the Lord said to Satan, ldquo;From where do you come?rdquo; So Satan 	answered the Lord and said, ldquo;From going to and fro on the earth, 	and from walking back and forth on it.rdquo; 8 Then the Lord 	said to Satan, ldquo;Have you considered My servant Job, that there 	is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one 	who fears God and shuns evil?rdquo;

You probably remember that from here he loses all of his children and his wealth in one day.

That did not do the trick though, Job 1:22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong.

So in chapter 2, God allows Satan to afflict Job's body and again, Job 2:10b In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Then Job's three friends show up and everything changes.

Job 19 :6 God has wronged me

Job 23:3 Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat! 4 I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments.

From Chapter 3-31 we have a great debate going on as to whether Job is a wicked sinner who has hidden his sin and is now being judged by God as his friends suppose or whether he is perfectly righteous as he maintains.

Job certainly is a righteous man! We see this in Ezekiel 14:14 Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness,rdquo; says the Lord God.

Job was a good man! As judgment came upon Judah in its final days and was very certain, God makes the declaration that only these three men are righteous enough to deliver themselves from His fury.

That is saying 	something!

I don't think any of us can claim to be in God's top three like he is here.

His friends were wrong to accuse him of sin because he was going through a trial.

I think this is really representative ...</itunes:summary>

		<itunes:summary>Has anybody here ever felt like quitting? Like giving up? I don't know about you, but sometimes I get tired. I feel like I'm swimming upstream.... through peanut butter.

Trying to serve the Lord can be hard work sometimes. Just trying to live godly with all of the junk that the world and the devil throw at you can seem overwhelming.
Sometimes it seems like it would be good if we could just get rid of all of our problems.......
I once read of this story in the News; (Google News)

BRUSSELS - Hidden among the porcelain fox hounds and Burberry tablecloths on sale at eBay. this week was an unusual item: "For Sale: Belgium, a Kingdom in three parts ... free premium: the king and his court (costs not included)."
The odd ad was posted by one disgruntled Belgian in protest at his country's political crisis, which had reached a 100-day landmark with no end in sight to the squabbling between Flemish and Walloon politicians.

The problem with selling America is I think we are upside down right now. We owe more on her than she is worth.
You can't sell a country on E-Bay!.
People do crazy stuff when they get frustrated, don't they?
I understand gas station drive-aways are considerably up with the current prices.
Sometimes we can do pretty dumb things
And sometimes when we are struggling people can give us pretty crazy advice too.
In a French Paper it was reported that, after a 25-year-old woman was accused of murdering her father and sister (and wounding her mother) in July, 2007 in Sydney, Australia, authorities revealed that she had been diagnosed with a psychotic illness in 2006. However, she had been discouraged from seeking psychiatric treatment by her parents because they are Scientologists, who by doctrine reject psychiatry and psychotropic-drug treatment.
Bad advise on that one
King David had some issues in his life too.
He had people give him crazy advice.
But he had something that he could count on in his times of distress.
Turn to Psalm 11 with me and rise as we read God's Word. READ ALL

Psalm 11:1 In the Lord I put my trust; How can you say to my soul,
"Flee as a bird to your mountain"?
2	For look! The wicked bend their bow,
They make ready their arrow on the string,
That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
3	If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?
In these verses, someone was giving David some bad advice.
Telling David that he should run away from his problems.
David says I trust the Lord, How can you say this to me?
Even though it may have been that Saul was chasing him down and trying to kill him
Or later in his life that his own son Absolom had seized the throne and he was forced to flee.
Do you have problems?
Some even quote this bad advice to the Church claiming that the immorality of the culture will destroy us.
The Church originally flourished in a culture of immorality in the first three centuries. Under the Roman government where infanticide was acceptable and where brutality was commonplace the Church flourished. Even under government sanctioned persecution where Christians were periodically beaten , tortured and killed!

There is however a serious issue raised here by David's counselors, "if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?"
To these counselors I believe that their foundation was David and his rule.
But what are the "foundations?"
If David's base or foundation is his Position as King or his Palace or Political Power, what will happen if he is attacked and loses these things?
Sometimes the Church wants those things too.
Historically though the Church has more power when it is Pure and not through Position, Possessions or Politics.
This is not David's base though is it? He began with the words, "In the Lord I put my trust;"
He goes on to say.....
Psalm 11:4 The Lord is in His holy temple,
The Lord's throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold,
His eyelids test the sons of men.
5	The Lord tests the righteous,

		<itunes:summary>As we come to the next section of Luke, I just want to remind you all of where Pastor Mike left off. Sermon # 90 something...
Jesus had given the parable of the King and the ten minas and referenced it to the historical king Archelaus.
This King represents Jesus, the one upon whom Israel had waited to set things right, though Jesus had said in the parable that He would be going away before He would reign, He was now coming into Jerusalem to claim His throne.
Luke 19:28 When He had said this (The Parable), He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29And it came to pass, when He came near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, 30saying, ldquo;Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. 31ldquo;And if anyone asks you, lsquo;Why are you loosing it?rsquo; thus you shall say to him, lsquo;Because the Lord has need of it.rsquo; rdquo;
Matthew 21:4 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5 ldquo;Tell the daughter of Zion, lsquo;Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.rsquo; rdquo;

Matthew points out the fulfillment of prophecy as he goes through the stories since he is writing to Jews.

Luke is a broader audience and so has less of these references.

The point is that the Jews had it all written down before them and in their hardness and impenitent hearts they did not see it.

We will see more of this as we proceed

Luke 19:32 So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. 33But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, ldquo;Why are you loosing the colt?rdquo; 34And they said, ldquo;The Lord has need of him.rdquo; 35Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. 36And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. 37Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38saying:
ldquo; lsquo;Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!rsquo;
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!rdquo;
39And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, ldquo;Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.rdquo; 40But He answered and said to them, ldquo;I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.rdquo;

Jesus now encourages to crowd with regard to heralding Him as King. Before this He has not done so.

The people shout Hosannah! As we see in Matthew and Mark's accounts. This means "Save us Now!"

And also as we see here in Luke as well they quote the 118th Psalm, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!"

There is a recognition of these prophesies being fulfilled here!

Again we see the hardness of hearts as the Pharisees rebuke Him for allowing this praise.

Luke is pretty much giving the running narrative of what happened that day. Though he does not call specific attention to the prophesies as Matthew and Mark do, their fulfillment is still in view.

There are a three different kinds of people that we see here in this narrative.

The disciple who sees the reality of Jesus' authority yet still won't fully comprehend it until after the resurrection. A couple of months out.

The crowd who is whipped into a frenzy with anticipation of what Jesus might accomplish temporally for them and their nation.

The Pharisee who is threatened and in opposition to what this will mean to his personal position.

Everyone was waiting for this great Kingdom. This rule and reign of God through His Messiah that would alleviate all of the political turmoil and the personal suffering and br...</itunes:summary>
