Driven to Serve - Ephesians 2:1-10

By Steve Jeantet | March 13, 2007

Coinciding with the launch of Waypoint Church, we did a series entitled “Driven” in which we looked at each of the three purposes that are going to drive us as Waypoint Church.

* Dead in Sin
o “As for you, you were dead in your sins and transgressions…” (Ephesians 2:1-3)
o Like the great line in The Sixth Sense, we are “I see dead people, walking around, and they don’t even know they are dead.

* Alive in Christ
o “But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love for us, made us alive in Christ.” (Ephesians 2:4-9)
o God’s great gift to us of his mercy and grace makes us alive by the work of Christ

* Alive for a Purpose - To Serve
o “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
o It is only as we are made alive in Christ that we can fulfill our created purpose of serving people

* We want to be a church that gets dirt under our fingernails as we serve the poor and hurting in our community. There are three arenas we have diagnosed to serve.
o In Our Church
o In Our Local Community
o In Our World

* Fill in the blank: I can serve by ____________.
